A Brief History of Hamilton Memorial Park
November 4th. The dedication of the cemetery was held in an unusual fashion. Instead of a ribbon cutting, the old Guion barn was burned as an exercise for the Westfield Fire Department. Cars along the highway stopped to watch the excise as the flames got a little out of control. Attendees stayed warm as firemen gallantly fought and controlled the blaze. Embers floated through the air for more than an hour.
Work starts on the first phase of development. The plan was developed by Paul Sweeney, Floral Park Cemetery Association’s former board chairman, Tim Elson, general manager, and general contractor Tom Marten.
October 18th. A dedication event is held in the new Lakeview Mausoleum Chapel. Board members Judge Paul H. Buchanan, Jr. and Bruce W. Buchanan deliver remarks, as does the general manager Timothy Elson.
The lakeview building was designed and built by Gibraltar Mausoleum Construction Company. The building’s designer was Robert Gray, the father of Buchanan Group’s family service advisor at Hamilton Memorial Park, Kelsey Ehrgott. She started with the company in 2010 and was stationed at Hamilton Memorial Park beginning in 2020.
Megan Beatty is the first burial on September 7, 1997. She was transferred from Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis. Buchanan Group’s Mark McCrocklin managed the transfer.October 18th. Prairie Waters event center is opened. The facility is uniquely designed to serve both community (weddings in particular) and funeral, memorial service, and celebration of life events. It is 12,500 sq. feet with a main event room, a garden suite, a terrace overlooking the lake, and a front gallery. The building also contains the cemetery office.
The first funeral event was a memorial service for Raymond Hendrix on August 19th. The funeral was arranged by Jamie Weyer, Flanner Buchanan’s managing director at Prairie Waters.
Flanner Buchanan’s locations and resources make everything more convenient for families. That’s because, after nearly 150 years in the business, we’ve learned how to streamline the process.
When a service takes place, there are hundreds of tasks and details which must be coordinated and accomplished in a short period of time. Families have found choosing Flanner Buchanan is the best choice because of the convenience of having all of their planning and service needs in one location.
